Week #024: The 23 Hour Day

March 18th Update: As I mentioned, I will not be making a post this week due to my just-ending vacation. I planned to make a post only talking more about these references and where they were from, but no one knows! In the best interest of the sport of obscure trivia, I am not going to ruin the fun by revealing the sources myself. Tune in next week (March 25th), when I'll likely be talking a bit about the development process involving the first tier of light skills.

I've a lot in store for you this week! One would think I'd plan ahead more often with results like these.

First up, we have the requested and sometimes demanded cursor redesigns. With our little speed bump involving last week's release, I had a little time to finally catch up on these, both redesigning the old and coming up with some proper grabbing frames for any drag-and-drop functionality. Hopefully these are a bit more fitting.

Second, it should be known that I find weakness in wasting countless hours reading up on meaningless trivia on Wikipedia. Thanks to this, I have a great appreciation for our own HTD Wikipedia authors doing their research when it comes to references even as small as the source of my avatar. So I thought I would share a few of the in-game nods I have in store for HTD.

Some of you that have been around since the beginning may have seen these two assets before in various previews of the Fortuitous Cave. The Treasure Lord's hoard itself is home to several references that any 2004 raider should be able to spot one or two of.

Just recently - another side-effect of last week's delay - I created this weapon for use in the game (stats not final) based on something I saw in a recent addition to Netflix.

Images represent a game currently in development.
I haven't yet talked to Sam or Dan involving any sort of reward for spotting all of these references... but I'll be sure to make note of those who can!

This week may be a slow one, as I've thrown around the idea of taking the week off. As such, next week's blog post may be a quiet or completely non-existent one, but I'll be sure to check in to judge reference guesses as well as answer any questions if nothing else.

    1. I got first????? Wow. That's always good XD. Anyways, thanks for advertising the wiki, virtually nobody helps us out...

    2. I thought about signing up and contributing, but I feel like that would be cheating.

    3. Lol XD It's okay if you join, but don't post anything that hasn't been mentioned by either of the blogs (not that I thought you would). The more I think about it, though, the more it seems like cheating... XD If you see that we've missed something, though, nobody's stopping you from joining. We need a lot of help (in my opinion).

    4. Well, it seems to be it is pretty rough to have a wiki about a game not technically released yet. It should build content once there is a story, a world, and characters to deal with.

  2. Idea: Add more then 1 curser, then we can choose which one we like best. Then there is also more stuff to unlock

    1. If we do any cursor variations at all it might just be on a per-race basis. This would be a ways off of course.

  3. Thanks for the information, the new sword looks awesome. Also do you have information on the other weapons?

    1. Stats, like you did with the Supernatural Sword.

    2. No. Those stats are in no way final, I'm not in charge of itemizing, and this example will probably in no way reflect the itemizing of the game itself.

  4. SECOOOOOONNDDD!!!!!!!!!! I have a question. It says lv 60 or GTFO. If I have to level up to lv 60 before I fight the first boss, were going to have some serious problems.

    1. That's one of the references. You're clearly not a 2004 raider. :D

    2. World of Warcraft? I might be wrong, but that just sounds like somewhere a 2004 raider would be.

  5. So, what is the sword ref. for those who don't know?

    1. I guess I'll spill the answers next week. Although I'm kind of surprised that no one even has a guess, since I didn't think they were THAT obscure.

Maybe I'll just leave 'em until someone does. >:D

  6. Woooo love the new cursor ;)

Btw isn't the sword too big? (dunno the ref so it may be originally big) just thinking its one handed + broken lol

Like the cursors by race idea, still if we have a party with multiple races that would seem dodgy so... dunno, but I'm sure IF it comes it will come in a nice way ;)

I'll be sure to take a look at the wikki once my pc is back up... =S

    1. It's a two-handed sword that's now one-handed size thanks to the break. It still might be a bit too big though, yeah.

  7. An anonymous as first AGAIN? Not anonymous for first of GTFO

    1. I just forgot to log in. Anyways, I signed it as Eba77 so it wasn't anonymous.

  8. Yeah, forgot to mention. As one of the people entirely against the former Mickey Mouse glove cursor, the new cursor looks great. :)

  9. Looks like Narsil, the blade that destroyed Sauron... (lord of the rings)

But that's probably to easy, however it was two handed before it was broken:P

    1. I'm not the greatest LotR fan, I doubt I'll include any references unless it's someone else's idea.

    2. next week can you show us the title screen? (not that I want to rush you a lot)

      Delete
    3. The title screen is still having some finishing touches being applied. I'm planning to reveal it two weeks from tomorrow (sunday).

  10. Is the sword a reference to the Broken sword in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Excalibur?

Love the new pointer designs, way better than the previous design

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No.

It's honestly pretty obvious which leads me to think it was just too obscure of a reference to use.

      Delete
  11. Um, did some research and the best I can come up with is the broken sword is from Fire Emblem? Haha idk, just trying :P

  12. Can we still claim firsts on the non-existent post? :P

  13. Dude...Whats with the pink and purple scimitar in the gold. I know dragons keep the weapons of there fallen enemies, but who marches into the lair of a dragon with that excuse of a weapon?

    1. Combat rogues who know their stuff, that's who.

    2. Lol. You're Probably right.

    3. Also, I can barely read the title of the book. Any Idea on what it said? Whats in the Bottle Anyways? Beer? Wine? Honey Nectar? My Last Question...Will this dragon have hands? This might sound like a stupid question but, Plese reply I've hadf this question for a while.

      Delete
    4. What bottle?

Yes, the Treasure Lord has proper humanoid arms and hands. But still clawed and dragon-like.

    5. Sorry, what I meant to say was purple barrel. Plus, what's on the title of the book? Sorry for so many questions but I'm really looking for those references. Even though I don't know what a 2004 raider is :(. This is probably a pointless search.....I should just give up.... OR I could keep searching and looking like an idiot every time I fail! Yay! :D Tell Bill I said hi!

      Delete
    6. Oh, it's a treasure chest, tipped on it's side. It probably just holds more gold!

Revealing the title of the book might make it all too easy to piece together. Guess you'll have to look forward to zooming in on that once it's in the game. ;D

      Delete
    7. Oh, and This isn't a question about the reference. Will HTD be using curses? Nothing too extreme, but you know. I know there are some younger audiences to HTD. Me being one of them. Lol.The sign says GTFO so I'm asumming there will be some curses in it, but that could just be me trying to think of random questions to keep this conversation going. BTW have you decided the reward of the reference guesser? I have an idea. You could gain different titles by completing "contests" here on the blog like you're doing now. Every Week (Or what ever amount of time works for you) you could put up a question or riddle on the post. The first one to get the correct answer will receive a special title. They could tell you there account name, you locate them and you give them their title! Like this one would be "2004 Raider" Hope you like mah idea. :D P.S how do you do the squiggly dash. Like This - but more squiggly.

    8. I imagine profanity will be kept clean for the sake of rating. It hasn't really be talked about, but we did make the move to keep blood out.

As for the rewards, we haven't decided on anything in particular for that but it is definitely something I want to do later down the line.

  14. I'm probably wrong but "Supernatural", "Sir Winshester" the hair look of the guy... Supernatural series?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The other thing that comes to my mind is "The pirates of dark water". Ren's sword was the shattered one like "Supernatural" and scimitar looks like the weapon of Ioz.
