Week #022: Newcomer - Bill Cass

Due to the nature of interface design that I've spoken about recently, it was rather easy for me to outright forget about making a post last night. By the time I remembered, I wasn't even really sure what to go about posting.

With the addition of Bill to our team, I thought I'd take a bit to talk about him and just what he'll be doing for HTD. I've known Bill for well over a decade, and knew from the word go that he would be the one capable of matching my style without even blinking. My goal is to have him focus on what I don't necessarily excel at, and vice versa. Therefore, I'll still be handling all character animation myself. You won't have to worry about later animations looking slightly off as if they were handled by someone else or anything.

Images represent a game currently in development.
One thing he can definitely excel over me at is creature design. This is a part of the application process we put him through; to design an enemy creature for use at a later point in the game. To be clear, this is not something we're looking at including anytime soon, but are definitely filing away for a later date. I was personally really blown away by this design and some of the ideas Bill had, and I'm eager to push ahead and make it happen.

For his first assignment, Bill is hard at work on the first tier of water spells that are set to be added next week.

    1. Except that I didn't post until it was actually tuesday. I hope no one actually relies on these posts to keep their schedules straight, or I might feel terrible.

    2. Please, nobody take this offensive, but if they DO rely on this for their schedules, then they have no life. However, it does show how much they care for this awesome game, which makes up for it.

    3. Don't worry, I knew it was Monday. I had a midterm so I had to go to class. And today is Tuesday because I had lab. :P
Why use the HTD Art Blog to tell the days when you have courses to do that for you. :)

Glad for an update though. Definitely glad. :)

  3. I love the pictures in the top right and bottom left corners. The others look quite awkward. I hope to see more of what you can do and how exactly it will be incorporated into HTD. :)

  5. Love it. Maybe have 5 for a boss wave in a level filled with Weapon, Shield, and Worker caste? Maybe add a Healer caste that heals nearby ants. Workers move fast, have low defense, low attack. Shield cast has low speed, high defense, and low attack. Weapons have high attack, low defense, and low speed. Healers have low defense, low attack, and low speed, but heal nearby enemies. The Ant Lancers would be high attack, high defense, and medium speed. In the final wave, they come with a Wueen Ant, which spawns random ants to fight for her. As she is the boss, she is low-speed, high health and defense, and doesn't attack. Just wanted to see if you guys like my idea.

    1. We have some pretty incredible ideas in store. Unfortunately they may not see the light of day for months to come yet, but it's something to look forward to for sure.
