Prior to coming on board here at Sam & Dan Games, I had messed around with the process of doing live streams for some of my more extensive sketching sessions. This never struck me as viable for the blog, since it would be hard to contact people when deciding to do one on a whim, and I wasn't keen on doing them on some kind of schedule. Time lapses sounded like a good solution!
I had the filming under control, but had trouble figuring out how to go about editing the footage. Windows Movie Maker just doesn't cut it, and I still haven't found a versatile, free and legal alternative. Eventually, fed up and frustrated, I contacted Gon and he suggest we just film the session from inside a time warp. He's capable of such things, you know.
Big thanks to my friend Cassie for giving me a hand with the leather armor design while I was occupied with the shadow ability graphics and a few other things this past week!

Just a reminder that this week's post coming a day earlier is not an error; I've pushed the usual post date from monday to sunday to ease off on the tension of getting a post together on my already-hectic mondays. It already feels much more comfortable to me, although that may be thanks to having this post ready since thursday night...
I'm also hunting for versatile, free and legal video editors for a potential future in "The Making of HTD" videos, if anyone has any experience on that front.
First!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice.!! Kudos Kev.
ReplyDeleteI like the timelapse, since Im used to things like WonderCraft and ThePortraitArt, but i think its only for the people who really like that kind of stuff. Keep it up though :)
ReplyDeleteDoens't time traveling make it a lot easier? ;) Still you have have noticed its a lot of mana consuming, but things get done before time =P
ReplyDeleteLoved the new sketches, still think its already too cool for starting gear, but only you know whats to come. They look really cool. Are they suppose to start already with gloves and boots and hats? or is it just to make the set look more finished?
Will there be mail? I mean the intermediate between leather and plate.
And how did last weak stuff ended? lol
Not really sure what you mean by them already starting with some things? There are a whole bunch of equipment slots, and seven of them (helm, shoulders, chest, cloak, pants, boots, gloves), not including weapons, are seen visually. They've all been built (hopefully... seems new issues with that comes up every week) to work on their own as well as the full set.
DeleteI haven't shown shots of them wearing only a partial set, so I guess I understand what you're getting at. Maybe I'll do that next week. If not I believe we're looking at adding that functionality to the game in the next month.
I've just been incorporating mail into the leather and plate designs, it will be tough to tell in most cases though due to the character size. There likely won't be a dedicated mail class.
Hm... The starting with I meant something more like "you know when you start the game with a new char and you select a class/gender/name, it starts wearing something", dunno if this way I explained better or even more confusing but I'll try "do the characters get that gear at their creation (with shoulders, gloves etc etc etc) or will they have to farm them around a bit before they have a maching gear?" (Sounds better now at least lol)
DeleteI'm more into go after stuff for a while and farming etc then free stuff ;)
And yeah I know they're in separate parts lol hope the question is more accurate now =P
ps: just noticed the "fix" I done almost sleeping was a mistake "week" for "weak"... the way I read it when I fixed was it was the opposite lol... damn it!
Oh okay. I'm not 100% on how the general game flow will be once it leaves the testing phase, but I think it's planned to be a Metroid setup where you'll start with this gear for the tutorial, but promptly lose it in some kind of disaster and have to start over right after.
DeleteDon't quote me on that, though. Things at that level are still changing rapidly and I don't always get the whole picture.
As for the testing phases, I imagine there'll be times where you both start with it and won't. As soon as loot dropping and equipping is implemented, for example, you'll likely start with a bare character for the sake of testing.
i liked the time lapse, it's a lot better than just looking at images.
ReplyDeleteAny release date on the male yet? :D
ReplyDeleteThis week if we're lucky. Next week if we're not.
DeleteI like the picture. I can't see the video because my computer is weird, but it looks excellent. Kudos, Kevin!
